I work in a small company... And we would like to try one of these software : Rabbit (www.rabbitsoft.com), Basecamp (www.basecamphq.com) or Cubetree (www.cubetree.com).
They make easier communication within a company, and allow us to share documents by the Intranet.
What's your advice?
Of the three products listed, Basecamp appears to be more project management oriented than the others which are more of a collaboration only product.
You really need to define your specific requirements for collaboration and/or project management software. Next do a function fit analysis to determine which software package, if any, meets your needs. Here is a thread from the General IT Management forum that link to an executive report about evaluating software - Off-the-Rack or Tailor-Made.
I've never seen such disparate functionality combined into a single package.
IMO you'll be further ahead looking for 3 distinct packages to meet your needs.
Haha thanks for the suggestion, but an all in one solution eliminates the need for double entry, and provides an integrated solution making it easier to maintain organization for a small business.
So does anyone have any suggestions?
Generally speaking most companies project management has nothing to do with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) so there are no common transactions between those functions.
The same can be said about CRM and billing which is an accounting function.
Project management packages often generate resource usage and completion/milestone reports that can be used by accounting, but otherwise they are not accounting programs.
You may be able to tie functions together with some custom code and/or scripts to make report output from one function suitable as input to another function. The bottom line is that it is a do it yourself or outsourced programming task.
Microsoft application products have the capability to be customized through various versions of Visual Basic.
Though neither a full project management package nor a full accounting package Microsoft Office Outlook with Small Business Contact Manager may suit your purposes. Link
We use freshbooks for timesheets, billing and invoicing. It will do basic project management but not the formal planning you find in most packages like Microsoft project. It will link with salesforce.com to do your CRM.
If anyone has a good on-line project management package please let me know, we would like to integrate it into our training courses. We want schedules, risk logs, stakeholder logs, change logs, issue logs and basic budgeting.
