Arrow ITIL Managers Exam: Tips and Advice

Hi,

I've just posted a list of top tips and some advice for people who are going to take the ITIL Managers (Masters) Exam soon.

For example:-

Did you know - examiners most commented statements when marking papers are:-

- The Hand writing is impossible to read
- The student did not answer the question asked (but answered what they 'thought' was asked)
- The student re-gurgitated a lot of information - but it was not asked for!

Visit:-

If anyone knows of any further tips or hints - please post a reply. Thanks!

As someone who has just become an examiner for the Manager's exam, I would agree with the points made (especially the one about answering the question!). I would add - take note of the number of marks per question, and answer accordingly. You have about 1.5 minutes per point, so for 5 points, you should be writing for about 7 1/2 minutes. Even in a "20 mark for the whole question ", if you read the question carefully, you will see that it is in different segments for example " Compare main benefits of x and y, and the difficulties in implementing each" is fairly clearly 4 times 5 marks!.
Also (and the examiner's feel strongly about this) it is a Manager's exam - so you should be talking as a manager, seeing the bigger picture, understanding costs etc.

If it says write a letter, draft a report, etc there are a couple of marks just for the format - so - the titleof the report, author (not a real name), Management summary, ScopeFindings, Recommendations.

Finally if it refers to the case study, your marks will be capped if you don't refer properly to it - not just saying " xxx Company would benefit from Configuration Management because...followed by a generic answer." Show specifically how the issues identified with the systems in the case study would benefit.

Lightbulb Exercise!

Hi,

You have raised some excellent points. For myself, one of the big challenges was training the hand to work physically for the total 6 hours of gruelling writing!

Especially if you have a gap between University & doing these exams, it's a good idea to gain practice in writing before the big-day.

The nice people at the IQC have solved your handwriting problem. All exams to ITIL V3 Expert level are multichoice. Appparently your ability to manage an implementation, and to apply and analyse your knowledge, can be tested by a few multichoice questions.

7) For which audience are multi-choice questions best suited?
a) kindergarten
b) primary school
c) trade apprentices
d) gossip magazine sex questionnaires

...from Introduction to Real ITSM
