Does anyone have any resources on what the Features of an Intranet should be?

Hi Macca.., boy did you open Pandora's Box or what Let's see if I can help.

In our Intranet suite we address internal employee to employee collaboration and company dissemination of information.

Collaboration:
Email, workflow, scheduling, CRM, filesharing, knowledge management, forms, etc..

Dissemination:
HR info... vacation & healthcare, company news, department reports, notifications, etc..

This is not a complete list by any means.., what an Intranet will have greatly depends on the industry you're in, how complex your company operation is, and size. Size plays a bigger role with your Intranet because large companies have deeper departmental layers, where as a small company is treated as one large department , in a sense. But depends a lot on the industry.

WOW! I have been searching for a couple of weeks now to find answers on how to add a contacts page to our intranet site. As I click on your link to the sample intranet, I find exactly what I am looking for. However, my questions is did you have to change code to make the page look as it does? Or is this a template that I can download? I am new to SharePoint and have been given the task to create an Intranet site in which I have a test invironment setup but am having difficulties on how to create/manipulate the web parts etc... I am not a programmer and dont know much about programmer however, I am on our network team in our office. Any input on steps on how to get the page that is shown for the contacts would greatly be appreciated or if I could be pointed in the right direction. Thanks!
