Unhappy Monitoring Software

Hello. I recently updated my internet security program, and while doing a scan for spyware, I found two programs: Ardamax Keylogger and Snoop Internet & PC Monitor.

I'm used to finding the usual spyware and adware, but these are a little different. Could I have picked them up by downloading other software, or surfing the net? Or were they specifically downloaded to my computer by either someone with access to my computer, or someone I received an email from?

My spyware scanner (McAffee 6.0) gave me the option to clean, which I did, but is that enough to get rid of the programs? From what I've read, these monitoring programs are designed NOT to be detected. I've also read that they are very difficult to remove.

One more question. Once I get the darn things off my computer for good, how can I prevent it from happening again? I'd appreciate comments from anyone who has had experience with this type of thing.

Thanks! Soulsong

That's unsettling.

It's possible they were installed as part of a Trojan, but it's also possible they were put on your computer by someone else with access to the machine.

You know more about who has access and who would want to do such a thing than we would.

I found the Ardamax logger in the PestPatrol pest encyclopedia:
http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/a..._keylogger.asp

You're using McAfee, which is good because it alerted you to the issue. We have a list of more programs that can help, including a Keylogger Killer in our Spyware Guide at:

The guide also has information on prevention:

It would be wise, once you have the programs removed to change your passwords and keep an eye on any online accounts to make sure nothing was compromised.
