IT Placement in Company

My company is looking to reorganize at the end of thr year. Right now IT is buried a few layers down in a division. IT is growing and becoming a great asset to the company. I would like to see IT become its own division where it can have a seat at the table at the management meeting. The company has grown to over 700 employees. Most of the other Division Heads seem to agree. I do need to convince a few more to get the deal sealed.

But I have been searching to find an article or paper that talks about IT placement within an organization.

Anyone know of an article?

TIA

I have not seen any articles on the topic.

As a consultant my client companies had their IT organization placed at all different levels from reporting up the financial management chain, as a division and as a wholly owned subsidiary reporting to group management.

Much depends on how your organization functions. Are your services used company wide? Do you bill your services to the user departments to recover your costs?

You will find more reasons why IT deserves its own place in a company at

and

www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/ (if your company is in healthcare)

I think most companies have a separate IT department even if it's only one or two people. It's a separate set of skills and let's be honest, the need is pretty ubiquitous in the business world today.
