I tend to favor Lenovo/IBM. Bulletproof.

It's HP for me, though my newest is a Dell.
I had nothing but trouble with ThinkPads.

I generally favor Levono/IBM, but am impressed enough with the Acer that I will be getting one. I did a lot of research and it has high marks from owners, and the price and features appear to be the best from among all of them.

I would recommend the Asus EePC series. Asus in some ways has been a pioneer in netbook technology..Check it out...

Here's an updated version of the top netbooks piece -- which one is best? It covers the ASUS Eee PC, Acer Aspire One, Dell Inspiron Mini 9, HP 2140, Lenovo IdeaPad, Samsung NC10, MSI Wind and the Sony Lifestyle PC.

After looking at all of them, I lean toward the HP 2140, but of course at $500 it's one of the most expensive. On the low end the ASUS is a good choice. Then again Dell lets you mix and match options, so I'd look seriously at them before picking.
