Why Can't Google Catch Easy Spam?

Google: I don't speak Chinese! When I get e-mail that's entirely Chinese characters, it's spam, OK? What could be easier than that?

Filtering mail of any kind based on language seems to me to be a no brainer.
Let the user set their "preferred/native" language and filter messages in any other language. The other possibility mentioned in the article is to have a user defined list of languages to filter. The latter option can be problematic since there thousands of languages. There would have to be a limited number of language filters. I can picture predefined sets of filters for various user geographic regions such as a check box for EUR or NA members.
